Loew Lake Hike National Trails Day (Saturday, June 02, 2012)

Loew Lake Hike National Trails Day

Loew Lake Unit of No KM SF Emerald Drive parking lot
See wildflowers, bubbling springs, eskers, tunnel channels and the Oconomowoc River as we celebrate National Trails Day. Restrooms, water, snacks, a free “raffle” and other fun things will be provided. Donations towards an Ice Age Trail interpretive display at Lapham Peak appreciated.

Hike 4.2 miles or 7.4 miles one way on the Loew Lake and Monches Segments of the Ice Age Trail. Hike south from DNR’s Emerald Drive parking lot to Hwy Q & K in Monches or continue on to Funk Road in Waukesha County and then catch a shuttle back to the Emerald Drive parking lot. Hike is rated moderate due to hills and distance. Hike also contains two short road walks on Emerald Drive, a state Rustic Road.

Meet at the DNR's Emerald Drive parking lot in the Loew Lake unit of the KMSF. To reach the parking lot from Milwaukee travel north on Hwy 45. Exit for Hwy Q (County Line Road). Turn left onto Hwy Q and travel west for approx. 11 miles going straight through the traffic circle at Hwy 164 and past Lake Five. You will then reach a four way stop with Hwy Q, K and E. This is the hamlet of Monches. Turn right onto Hwy K and travel north about 2.0 miles. Turn right onto Emerald Drive and travel northeast about 2.0 miles. The DNR driveway and parking lot will be on your right. There will be yellow “Ice Age Trail" event signs guiding you once you reach Monches.

A State Park sticker is not required. Co-sponsored with the Waukesha/Milwaukee County Chapter and the Waukesha County Parks Department. Contact Craig Sanford for more information: craigsan@wi.rr.com.
