Chris Kegel was a well-known supporter of bicycling in Wisconsin. Since his death in February 2017, Amelia Kegel, his daughter, has been honoring his legacy. She and her brother Noel run the Wheel & Sprocket bike and ski shops. The Kegel children have formed the Chris Kegel Fund to promote bicycling. OnOct. 20, Amelia Kegel will speak to the Nordic Ski Club of Milwaukee about the state of bicycling, the Kegel Fund, and the possible revival of her father’s favorite ride, SAAGBRAW, which went across Wisconsin. She’ll also address what’s new in cross-country ski gear. At this meeting, the Nordic Ski Club will present a check for $300 to Amelia for the Kegel Fund. The money was part of the club’s fundraising effort last winter and spring to support skiing and biking. We’ll also have the traditional sign-up for our bus trips to ski up north (see article on ski trips). After the program, there’s time for socializing.
