It's time for your muscles to go back to school. Presentations on March 15 at 8 p.m., after the Nordic Ski Club's annual meeting, will show two techniques for re-educating muscles for greater strength and stability. "Walk Like You Ski" will be the focus of Paula Brookmire, a Wauwatosa massage therapist. She'll have you "glide walking" based on posture expert Esther Gokhale's method to re-train your glutes. Then Ed Schuster, an occupational therapist, will demonstrate ways to use the oov, a rubbery, spine-like device. By creating initial instability, the oov helps retrain your brain to strengthen and stabilize core muscles. Instead of using too many muscles for one task, you can learn to isolate and strengthen specific muscles that are just right for the job. This Nordic Ski Club of Milwaukee get-together starts with a potluck dinner at 6:30 p.m. Renee Couture will coordinate the potluck; please email her by March 13 at acoutrr@att.net to let her know what potluck item you will bring to share (guests and non-members pay $5). At 7:20 p.m. we have the 48th annual meeting, a prize drawing for volunteers and previews of coming events.
We’re looking for one or two new board of directors members. The board meets 11 times a year, on the second Monday of the month, and meetings are fairly short. Please contact president Carol Doebler (tortoiseski@wi.rr.com) if you’re interested in this simple way to help direct and support the club.
