This year’s trip to Ravinia will happen on Saturday, July 27 when we will hear the Chicago Symphony Orchestra perform a tribute to Leonard Bernstein. Concert participants include conductor Marin Alsop, pianist Andre Watts who first performed on Bernstein’s Young Peoples Concerts many years ago and, as narrator, Jamie Bernstein, Lenny’s daughter.
The gates open at 5:00 with the performance beginning at 7:30. We will meet at 3:00 at the I-94 College Ave. Southwest Park and Ride. From there we will carpool to Highland Park, Illinois where we can park in the free lots and take the shuttle (also free) to Ravinia. Lawn seat tickets are purchased at Ravinia. Ticket prices are $15 with those over 65 able to purchase tickets for $12. The discounted tickets must be purchased at the main ticket office, not at a kiosk.
You may bring food and drink, including alcohol into the park. You might consider bringing food to share with the group. You can also purchase food and beverages at Ravinia. Bring chairs, tables, blankets, whatever makes you comfortable. You can rent tables and chairs while at the concert. It is ok to bring all of these items on the shuttle; everybody else is doing the same thing. Remember that you will go through security before entering the park. Also, please remember to contribute to your driver’s gas expense or consider being a driver too. If you are interested in going, please call Cindy at (414) 336-8695 to let her know you are coming.
