It’s time to mingle. Meet with fellow skiers, enjoy free pizza, sign up for motorcoach ski trips this winter and learn about exciting plans for cross-country skiing in the Milwaukee area.

Register for the October 15 Nordic Ski Club of Milwaukee (NSCM) season kickoff meeting. Club member John McCarthy will present a “slide” show on a potential new development at Lapham Peak State Forest. A generous monetary pledge by two Nordic Ski Club members has jump-started plans to build a new, larger lodge at the Evergreen Grove trailhead. John, who has been key to the Lapham Peak snowmaking project for years, is heavily involved in planning the new lodge. The Friends of Lapham Peak building committee held meetings with many park user groups, including NSCM, to see what we would want in a new lodge. If approved by the DNR, the new building could be about 5,000 square feet and located between the parking lot and the trailhead for the loops of homemade snow. The DNR is reviewing a business plan for the project.

Our NSCM October 15 meeting will be in the lower level at the Elks Lodge No. 400 in Waukesha starting about 6 pm. Enter the lower level from the parking lot. You can buy drinks at the Lodge’s bar, and you can bring in your own water bottles if you want. We will have both meat and vegetarian pizzas from Marty’s, but you must register for the meeting by Wednesday, Oct. 13.
