Last year would have been the 15th year of Gary Braun and Paula Brookmire's Nordic Ski Club of Milwaukee outing to view a multitude of fireworks from the bleachers at Wisconsin’s State Fair Park. Rain cancelled the display.

This year construction issues are moving the fireworks out of State Fair Park completely. They will be held Tuesday, July 4, at Nathan Hale High School in its West Allis Athletic Complex. The school address is 11601 W. Lincoln Ave., West Allis, but people use 117th St. to enter the large parking lot for the school. There’s a $10 charge for parking, to support the school.

Our plans at this point are to meet on the grass between 8:15 and 8:30 pm. Since we don’t know if we can get a bleachers seat, we suggest you bring either a lawn chair or blanket to sit on. Please call or text Paula at 414-491-4636 when you get to Nathan Hale and we’ll try to direct you to where we are sitting. We’ll bring a cross-country skier banner held up by ski poles. The band called Failure to Launch will play about 8:30 pm, and the West Allis fireworks start at 9:30 pm.

To avoid the parking charge, you could park in the pavilion parking lot at Greenfield Park, walk a few blocks along the northern section of Park Dr. to Rogers to 116th St. Follow 116th south a block to Lincoln Ave. and Nathan Hale High School. 

The Nordic Ski Club of Milwaukee (NSCM) continues to practice social distancing and the use of face masks, as recommended by the CDC and Wisconsin authorities.  Know that your participation in any event is at your own risk.  Before attending any NSCM outing or event, please check with the event leader.  Use good judgement and continue to keep us all safe.
